Autism Acceptance Month

All the way through this charity challenge I have been trying to think about things that I can say that will help people to better understand autism.

I think, if anything, the process of me trying to think of things is a good place to start.

Do I type something or make a video?
If I do either of these things, will anyone care?
Will I get a negative or positive reaction?
Should it be about traits, acceptance, feelings, misunderstandings, situations, growing up, being an adult, being a parent, being a business owner?
Should it be about stereotypes, insults, misconceptions, love, acceptance, ridicule, shame?
Should I speak out or keep it to myself?
Will it open me up to more criticism?

Now, I'm sure that reading this might have given you a headache... now imagine if this is your thought process before every single decision you make. From social interaction to buying breakfast cereal in Tesco. Or maybe Aldi. Or Morrisons..... Wait, no, Tesco. (you get the idea)

I will always welcome any questions and answer them to the best of my ability, so please feel free. Please know though, I can only answer about me and what I have experienced. Every autistic person is different as much as every person is different.

People are becoming more understanding and open about autism every day. It gives me hope but I know there is still a long way to go. I also feel like I understand myself more and continue to grow in confidence.

April is autism acceptance month and I am proud to be autistic.
